LEAP Program Early Childhood Development
For over 38 years, Wildfire Dance Studio has set a standard of excellence in Northeast Ohio. For years individuals have asked “How old does my child have to be to take class?” We are proud to introduce “LEAP”, a new program for children ages two to four. Your child will grow “Leaps and Bounds” above the rest! Nonverbal communication represents two thirds of all communication. Young children learn about themselves and the world through movement, as dance is fully integrated into their exploration and play. The Wildfire LEAP program supports their discoveries through classes rich in body part articulation, spatial exploration, music and rhythm. Classes will also emphasize relationship-based dance curriculum and practice the developmental patterns critical to early learning. As children progress, they will develop autonomy and a stronger sense of self-awareness through gross motor exploration and play. Wildfire LEAP classes offer a safe, fun-filled starting place for children to grow and develop.
Dance involves a greater range of motion, coordination, strength and endurance that most other physical activities. This is accomplished through movement patterns that teach coordination and kinesthetic memory.
Dance utilizes the entire body and is an excellent form of exercise for total body fitness. Young children are naturally active, but dance offer and avenue to expand movement possibilities and skills.
Dance promotes psychological health and maturity. Children enjoy the opportunity to express their emotions and become aware of themselves and other through creative movement.
Movement with a class offers a structured outlet for physical release while gaining awareness and appreciation of oneself and other.
Dance fosters social encounters, interaction, and cooperation.
Children learn to communicate ideas to others through the real and immediate mode of body movement.
Children quickly learn to work within a group dynamic.
Young children will create movement spontaneously when presented with movement ideas or problems that can be solved with a movement response. Movement provides the cognitive loop between the idea, problem, or intent and the outcome of solution. This teaches an infant, child and ultimately, adult to function in and understand the world.
The relationship of movement to intellectual development and education is an embryonic field of study that has only recently begun to be explored.
Dance is a powerful ally for developing many wonderful attributes of a growing child. Dance helps children
mature physically emotionally, socially, and cognitively. The physical benefits of dance are widely accepted, but
the emotional, social and cognitive attributes have only recently begun to be appreciated. The impact of creative learning on children is enormous. It promotes the importance of teamwork and social inclusion in a subtle but direct manner. Wildfire parents recognize that confidence and communication skills are vital to their children’s future happiness and success. A child who has the opportunity to study the performing arts becomes more interesting, expressive and motivated. We hope you will consider our LEAP program for your family!
